Students Feedback

I chose to take up this project for many reasons. I have always been told I’d be a good teacher - I have always wanted to go to Thailand but could not afford it and I wanted to see if I enjoyed it before committing to a full year contract.
Laura Gaudet, USA

This is a unique opportunity for its short-term , intensive immersion in the teaching process.
John Blake Batten, USA

I wished to become certified without committing to a full year.
Nora Mcculla, USA

After teaching in Japan for two years, I wanted to explore teaching in a different part of Asia. In addition to changing countries I wanted to further my teaching knowledge and ability. This program offered me all the aspects I was looking for in a new and challenging experience.
Where better than Thailand to start my new journey?
Courtney, USA

I am interested in teaching and I wanted to experience a new culture in a foreign country. Thailand sounds like a great place and the project sounds great. I like that it is a one-term commitment with the opportunity to stay longer at the school if I want.
Mathew Bohne, USA

I just graduated from college with a degree in teaching English and I didn't really want to stay in the States to teach since I had grown up in the same place all my life. I found this program on line, I decided that I would want to teach in another country.
Leslie Campos, USA

I want to teach in Chiang Mai, Thailand. So, I am taking this course to be certified.
David Siegel, USA

In the recent past I did some volunteer work overseas but I didn't have any formal training to teach English as a second language and ATI seemed like a good option.
Eric Mix, USA

I chose to take up this project because I have an interest in teaching and an interest in travel. Thailand has always fascinated me because of the rich culture and ancient Buddhist traditions. American TESOL Institute offered a program that would both ease the translation from America to Thailand and ensure that I could qualify English lessons to my students.
Another aspect of this program that appealed to me was the guaranteed job placement in Thailand followed by assistance with job placement in another Asian country.
Also, the locations for training program were excellent. It is a privilege to study in such a gorgeous city as Chiang Mai.
Nicole Louise Gilbo, USA

I took up this project because I had heard a lot of TESOL on the internet. My partner of 6 years, Kesinee, is a Thai national and I thought it would be good to come back to her home country and teach her nationals English. I am 45, but was never interested in teaching but I did a lot of staff training and development in my job. I think the Thai people want to learn English, and I have met people as young as 10 years old, that can speak fluent English. Thailand is a country of smiles and would dearly love to give something to the people in return of their hospitality. I actually want a career out of teaching in Thailand and would consider staying for a few years. I get on very well with Kesi’s family and friends and I really want to give something back to the people of Thailand.
Tim Bingham, England

Taking up this project would allow me to :
i) acquire an internationally recognized certification in TESOL.
ii) acquire the necessary training and experience to be able to teach English to students in Thailand.
iii) have the opportunity to learn and understand more about the right Thai culture and its people.
iv)interact and share in the course of my learning experience with students from various cultural backgrounds.
San Meng Kuan, Singapore

Work with kids in a foreign setting.
Rob Freundlich, USA

I've always loved traveling. I ‘ve also always wanted to live in another country and experience the culture and way of life there not as a tourist but as a member of society. I know a lot of people who have been to Thailand and told me wonderful things about the country. This program seemed like a perfect fit.
Katherine Stuth, USA

I no longer enjoyed my job. Before I started a new career, I wanted the chance to experience a new culture and travel. This combined cultures and areas where I wanted to travel.
Paul Jahnke, USA

I chose to take up this project because I wanted to escape the American 'bubble'. I just recently graduated from the University of Maryland this spring, and had no idea what I wanted to do with my life or where I wanted to live. I never had the opportunity to study abroad in college or see the world and I appreciate different cultures too much to never go out and see the amazing things that this earth has to offer. Therefore, I decided to take a huge leap of faith and discover Thailand and what it would be like to teach there.
Lindsey Wayne, USA

I wanted to travel on this part of the world but not just as a tourist. By working and living here a chance to meet new people and share more extraordinary experiences with them. I chose this project specifically because of the short-term experience it offered and because I had heard good stories about it from others.
Eugene Shockey Funke, USA

I graduated from college in May and wanted to see if I enjoy teaching. I have always wanted to travel to Thailand as well so the project perfectly met my goals for the next year.
Charla Hughes, USA

I have always wanted to teach abroad and Thailand is a place I had wanted to visit. I thought this program would be the perfect opportunity to see the country. I was so happy that it would be a shorter stay than others because of my obligations back home. I am excited to learn about the culture and country.
Erin Breon, USA

I love to teach and I love to travel. This is an exciting opportunity to experience a new culture, meet interesting people and eat great food.
Darrin Cook, USA

I have a long term desire to teach at all levels and I love to travel and meet new people. Thailand is a country that I've always wanted to visit. I am very excited about the opportunities that will arise from program.
Karla Tentschert, USA

I have chosen to take up this project in order to learn some new methods / ways regarding teaching. Also, to gain experience about Thai culture and meet new people.
Charmain Rodrigues, Bangladesh

I have long considered a career in teaching. A student for my whole life at this point, I have developed a deep respect and appreciation for the role that teachers play in one's life. I chose this specific project because it provides opportunity for travel and growth . Popularly known as 'land of smiles' , Thailand boasts of beautiful geography and architecture as well as a proud cultural history. I also have massive personal interest in the Theravada Buddhist tradition and Chiang Mai is renowned around Thailand exactly for this. As a teacher, I hope that I can have a permanent impact on my students, helping to instill pride and joy in their learning experience. Through interaction with students, we will all become more enlightened beings.
Gregory Hersh, USA

I thought it would be great opportunity to travel and learn, while making connections with local Thais along the way. Mostly though I thought it would be a fun way to expand my horizons. In particular, I would like to improve my public speaking which is occasionally hilarious.
Joe Lyerla, USA

This project sparked my interest for several reasons. It's a great opportunity for teacher training while also providing a job afterwards. It seems like a perfect way to expand my personal and academic growth as well as cultural awareness. The Chiang Mai location for teacher training was also extreme appealing as I prefer Northern Thailand and its mountainous region. Lastly, Alex, Suzy and other ATI employees have been ABSOULTELY kind and helpful. These all contributed to my choice of this project.
Jaclyn Baca, USA

I was interested in this program because I would like to get TESOL certification. The teaching in a Thai school aspect was great draw, as was the training. I was also very interested in living in Thailand as I really enjoy the country.
Peter Caldwell, USA

I wanted to see South East Asia and I also would like to teach so I saw it as an exciting opportunity.
Paul Gomes, USA

I went to Japan to teach English in 2006 with the desire to travel. After two and a half years I wanted to try and do something new again. ATI, Thailand was that chance to continue my travels.
Chris Frosini, USA

I wanted to come to Thailand because love to travel. I have taught for New York Public schools and wanted to stay teaching but wanted a new experience. I'm so excited!!
Anna Kaiper, USA

I came to Thailand last year and loved it and also may have aspirations to be a teacher so it was an ideal opportunity. Plus I really didn't like my job! I also love traveling and wanted to see more of South East Asia.
Grattan Maslin, England
